Le Château de Hautefort
In 1853, the Count of Choulot embarked on a comprehensive renovation of the Hautefort gardens. The former forecourt was transformed into a formal garden with lawns framed by flowerbeds. A neat parterre was established at the base of the main courtyard's terrace. Hautefort boasts over three hectares of boxwood beds, punctuated with topiaries of remarkable shapes, all pruned by hand biannually. Even more unique is the plant pergola, extending into a tunnel nearly 70 metres long, offering a cool retreat. A grand espalier of magnolias overlooks the parterre, which consists of 10,000 boxwood plants.
